I think we're only looking at 30 minutes now according to the italian guy.

30 til they can start ramping the beams to 3.5 TeV then after about a half hr or so itll be up to speed and the guy is estimating after about 30 mins of the beams directed at each other collisions will start, that last time can be much higher tho its all based on probability that the "particles" or "waves" come into contact in a trigger zone where data can be extracted

This is seriously exciting stuff... when this thing is up and running at its full designed power, the things we're hoping to learn (many months following the collisions, after analysis) will do nothing short of prove or disprove what we hold to be true about the way the universe works. But it's also a worthy moment to pause and reflect, imho.

I'm certain no world-ending disaster will ensue, but what if this was it, and we had 30 minutes left? What mattered in our lives? Was it money, power, family, love? Nothing at all? What would we have changed about this last day we lived? It's an interesting moment to be witnessing while lying in bed, getting ready to sleep. Just food for thought heh.

Quite possible ye. And basic knowlege of black holes will tell you there is zero chance anything bad will happen. It just wouldn't have enough mass.

Worst case scenario 2-3 atoms will have any sort of interaction with it before it has left the earths atmosphere. Most likely it will just evaporate in milliseconds.

Yeah, good point.. I don't really have time to explain right now, but if you google "hypothetical questions" you should find something that sheds light on why people ask these kinds of questions in order to explore scenarios that may not exist or even be possible.

like, a few googleplexes too little.

same thing with the LHC, not enough matter in one space

It's not about science. it's the ammount of energy needed for what you're suggesting.
they're running 3 different experiments on creating fusion atm, and sometime in the next 10 years there will be reults. then they've got to make it profitable before they can start building fusion powerplants at a large scale, then they've got to plan and build some whacky experiments utilizing the power, and then it's got to go wrong.
