not bashing you, but this is not 'i just need...' those are essentials to starting/running a business, have you tried selling any designs to a shirt a day site or something to see if they'll hit, if you don't have a plan for promotion let alone production all you have are some designs. not saying you can't do it, but it's going to take a lot more work than creating designs, good luck

if you sell a design to a shirt-a-day site they own the design and you cannot reproduce it so trying to use it as a gauge of interest is not going to be worthwhile.

cafepress is terrible, they charge you $15 for a 1 sided cotton tshirt and then you have to mark it up and shipping is a fee also... to make $3 on your end, the customer pays around $21.

I think you would make more money just selling designs. I'd like to open a clothing store as well but just sell name brand shit.
i actually got a decent idea for a clothing site. anyone know where i can find me some sexy models?

If you live near a college town girls will do it on Craigslist for free to add to their portfolio.

quit shit posting in every thread
well for one, i would find someone who can sew... Then you get that person to sew you up prototypes.... Once you have your prototypes done up, take them around your local Urban Sprawl...Find Boutiques and Shops in your area targeting your audience. Take in a few orders... Buy all your supply's online. Denim, Pressed buttons, Pressed Rivets, Tags, ETC.... Then you get a bunch of older Chinese lady's(no joke they can sew like mad) off craigslist to sew up your clothes for like 10$/hr. Once you have your shit made, i would focus on a marketing strategy.. Because you are super super small, i would go with Limited Editions, Numbered. Add total counts of each edition on a website... keep it low, like 50 of each... Should give you an edge, and if you market it right, you could put some "custom" in there for big money... If your shit looks right.. you will blow up.
TL;DR: do research beyond DG, anyone can do anything
i've been involved with many companies creating tshirts because i'm the business guy of my friends.. and i'm a successful entrepreneur.
how much can u really make off t-shirts for supplemental income?
Cost per t-shirt $10 bucks (for shirt and print?) sell t-shirt for $20 bucks? $10 dollar profit. $10 x 500 t-shirts sold at full retail would bring you $5,000 bucks... profit... how long would it take you to reach 500 people that actually will spend 20 bucks a pop on a shirt?
your going to have to beat everyone else and use QUALITY t-shirts like.. American Apparel and there shit isn't cheap....
here's a few businesses i helped start up either with my ideas, art, or web site design.
shallowstyle [dot] com
telmeclothing [dot] com
check out TelMe because that is the only idea that is REAL ORIGINAL and actually had some potential. they started marketing there tshirts to coporations as a team building exercise. thats money. thats real business.
trying to making a few grand for DAYS AND MONTHS OF STREET HUSTLING WITH TSHIRTS ain't happening.
we do print tshirts and go to concerts and festivals and those sell... but one of my buddies OWNS a print production shop.

um t-shirts cost inbetween $1.50 to $3.50 to print (if you own the machines, etc)
the margins on t-shirts is much higher than you'd think
gooood luck guys - you don't need a new idea to make money, you just have to make it happen at a price that is profitable

Keep in mind, these arent my graphic tee's. I am just posting some that already got links. These are the first two I made, every day teen and early 20's has some addiction to word only shirts like these.

This thread made me think of the hbo series "How to make it in America".
I had a few t-shirt ideas, well, more like a concept. I'm really not great with design, so putting anything together in photoshop takes me forever.
First thought was cafepress.com, but good to see a few more resources.

basically i am in this thread because my friend has some ideas. im sure its an untouched "niche" when it comes to shirts. im not going into details, they are buying their own screen print etc etc.
a shirt an hour is what they estimate. but their idea is golden for a shirt. i hope even if it makes them 200% profit, im drunk.
if it makes them money and this idea is actually golden, i will invest about 200 bucks worth in their shirts. this idea can go nation wide its just one shirt design but it can really go far imo, and i think it will go far. help me please, i need more advice. hes getting a screen printer, what else is there that we need. thanks help.

How do they plan to promote them, where will they be sold, what payments will they accept? Once they start selling outside of their immediate area how do they plan to ship, what will the shipping costs be, what will they do if they send the wrong size what happens if they get back ordered and people start to lose interest have they looked into outsourcing options for scaling?

IMO if they want to be serious about it, get someone who has been making shirts for awhile. My buddy has a small company in Denver that he makes shirts out of and they are all outsourced from http://www.spreadingink.com/ if you are going to be serious about it, get someone that knows what they are dong rather than printing your own shitty t-shirts.

Print them yourself if your serious. Google up how to do screen printing. Best way to make most profit. Js nbd
