What do ups.com, vodafone.com, theregister.co.uk, acer.com, betfair.com, nationalgeographic.com and telegraph.co.uk have in common? They all use NetNames as their registrar. It appears that the turkish attackers managed to hack into the DNS panel of NetNames and modify the configuration of arbitrary sites, to use their own DNS (ns1.yumurtakabugu.com and ns2.yumurtakabugu.com) and redirect those websites to a defaced page.

Tispe is NOT going to be happy.
I left UPS back in April
haven't looked back since
(jk i went to visit them the other day since back up in jer-z visiting)
i still work at that dump
i'm loling hard. inside.ups.com runs almost everything essential to day-to-day operations and I wonder if its still working or not? I can't get to it right now because its not accessible without login and RSA and they don't give me that level of access outside work.

They hacked http://www.ascio.com (ascio was the domain registrar used by all these sites) or had an exploit for it and changed the DNS servers for all of those sites above + some other ones. These people do this a lot and even did it to twitter.com last year if you recall. They did not compromise the actual websites in question.
I, for one, am not amused in the slightest.
couldve done leet <><ing but nope
