I had a meeting last thursday with a couple wealthy guys who want to start a social networking site. They want to gear the site towards highschool athletes.
I showed them a demo of the Dolphin Community Builder, and they liked it.
You can check out the demo here:
http://www.boonex.com/products/dolphin/
Only they want some custom profile fields. Instead of about me, etc. They want Height, Weight, Sports that they play etc.
Basically I need someone who can change/add features to the script. Alot of the script is embedded in the SQL database. So I need someone familiar with php and MySQL.
I'm willing to split the profit 60/40. 60% for me cause I have to go to all the meetings and talk to them and crap.
I have demo set up on my server already, and we work on it there.
So if you think you can help me do this, and want to make some money. Get ahold of me.
if i were you i would pay someone a few hundred dollars ONCE to edit it to your liking instead of throwing away 40% of your money forever

That's the plan. Maybe I should've chosen my words better. Anyway, I'm willing to pay whomever helps 40% of what I charge them. Not 40% of profit forever.
so what part of the work are you doing? you get 60% for knowing these supposed "wealthy guys"? lol...this is almost as cheap and shady as you offering rapidshare accounts for logo designs :zensdino:

Aye 60% is quite the cut.
Also might want to get some hard numbers in here so people aren't getting excited for 40% of $1.

if some "wealthy guys" were paying you $2k for some simple site that you knew you could get done for $300 outsourced through someone else you know then wouldnt you take $1700 profit and do 0 of the work? the only difference would obviously be that you dont advertise theres a % cut going on to the person taking the $300 :P
he probably shouldnt have mentioned the 60/40 thing at all and just put a price out there to avoid posts like that but oh well

well yea that was my point, also who knows if these people exist, for all u know he could be trying to hustle a free layout and then when its payment time he says his wealthy partners dont liek it. this is not the same as someone outsourcing cause hes not outsourcing it..ur depending on what he gets paid for which is why its dumb and shady
i hate to be the pessimist here, but social netoworks are pretty much at their peak. its a downfall from here. theres money to be made, sure, but it wont be done the way your 'wealthy' investors imagine it.
from this post, i imagine them with a lot of cash from a non internet venture; trying to expand after hearing about the recent bebo or facebook valuation.. if i were you.. id promise them the world, and rape them for as much cash as you can squeeze outta them and call it a day. itll work to both your advantages:
1) you get paid.
2) your wealthy friends learn real quick you dont throw money at the internet blindly.
lol money

i will be doing some of the work and i will be the one talking/meeting with them. the last meeting i went to, i was there for almost 2 hours, and gas cost money.
i'm not trying to be cheap or shady, i'm serious. fyi i did give ry a rapidshare a premium account for making that logo for me.

I haven't really talked prices with them yet, we just discussed what features they want on the website.
I plan on charging them between $1,000 - $2,000. So whoever helps can expect between $400-$800. Maybe more, I'm gonna try to get as much as I can out of them.

We didn't really talk money, we just talked about what features they want. I know they got big money though. I don't really need a salesman, I need a coder.

They do exist. I met with them thursday. I'm not trying to hustle a free layout or whatever. I just need help. I'd personally never do that to someone. I worked on a site for some rich fucks before and they refused to pay me, and I'm taking them to court.
I promise If I get paid, whoever helps will get paid.
True.. you are depending on what I get paid and I can't really promise anything right now. All I know is they're willing to pay for a social network site IF I can get them the features they want on it.
Maybe I can talk them into paying me half now, then the other half when it's done. So I have the money to pay someone up front.

they have big money and you're going to charge $1000 for a social network? I would argue you do need a salesman.

rmkilla/ryph have a point. If these guys are wealthy from outside of the internet ventures and are trying their foot in the door with a social network site, and are "mega wealthy", if you talk your game you could come out with who knows how much. The general person doesn't understand taking a pre-existing script/code and making minor edits to be simple.

word.
i've contacted a professional web design company, and scheduled a phone meeting for tomorrow. i'm going to get a price quote from them, hopefully it's like a grand or something, then i'll go from there. i talked to one of the rich guys and i mentioned $6,000 for a custom script with all the features he wants, and he said that's not a problem.
lol money.
how do you want to pay the tribute for getting you an extra 4k? i can do paypal cash or epass :)
