It has come to my attention that by doing work for charaties and non profits, free(as in free beer), and having them sign a statement for how much the work would have cost and that it was done, i can make bank on tax rightoffs, even driving my income into the negatives. Ideas / advice welcome.

I've donated web sites and my CPA never let me write it off. Can't write off the hosting at retail because you're already writing off the server cost and I guess donated time doesn't count for shit otherwise everyone that volunteered at an animal shelter etc. could take $ out of uncle sam's pocket.

I could be wrong though, but definitely talk to a CPA.

doesn't sound like it would work to me

i cant see any logical way for you to tell uncle sam what your 'time' is actually worth

I know a guy that writes off work for charities. Churches, Historical Society of the city he lives in, a nearby City Council site etc.

Personally, I'd rather receive $$$ and then donate to charity.
