It's an ongoing process. Won't happen overnight. I don't "hack" page rankings either.

How do you mean

You have to have unique content since a lot of keywords are already being used by other websites. If your website has basically shit copied from other, more popular websites your site will not rank very high in the search engines. Also, if you have other websites linking to yours, like Social Bookmarking sites (delicious, stumbleupon, digg, etc), it will make your site rank higher in the search engines. As iceman said, this can't happen overnight either.

What kind of site do you have/plan on making?
