no free money is great, your problem is you assumed dgers are that generous. if you have 6k to drop for a top spot, it doesnt take much grey matter to conclude that the knowledge to get that spot is worth A LOT more than 6k. (you plan on turning a profit, right?)

i was honestly halfway serious with my buyout option. getting 1st couple page results for a keyword like 'canada' is worth (IMO) a LOT more than 6k, not even remotely thinking about the #1 spot.

search for whatever it is you want to get #1 spot for, if its a huge established website like canada.com, go to #2 spot. go down the line for 2-3 pages. put in bids for their sites. if you can't buy out a site, then im truly sorry but you cant afford. thats the honest truth.

Here's an example with a web directory I have.. it shows up on the first or second page only on some obscure keywords. And just because it shows up on the first page doesn't mean it will get clicked either. If there's a lot of other websites like yours it's harder to get ranked for the most popular terms.

Someone is in the papers. there name has not so good articles posted about them. you type in there name and these articles come up. this same person is starting up a buisness. there name gets typed in and there website is 4th on the return list from google the first one and second one from large, well known websites. How can you have enough content to pass these already established bandwith whors. chances are the old articles arent even recieving hits anymore.

if the pages are still active and not a 404/301 then you're not going to get that off of google and replacing it as #1 is only going to mean it will then be #2, so whats the point? for what you're wanting to do you would need to get it off of the first page completely and i'd still argue that if anyone was trying to dig up dirt on someone else they would probably venture past page 1 of google anyways

maybe someone else has an idea but willing to invest time (and money?) to only find yourself with it as the #2 result instead of the #1 is dumb imo

You realize the amount of direct traffic to the website makes absolutely zero difference to your search engine positions? So proxy hitting your website for traffic isn't going to do a damn thing.
