Agreed. For me it is the simple fact that they a)exist, b) are being added to with c)no discernible reason for their construction/authorization by people who d)decry the use of said military type installations in other parts of the world which are e)established with a clear, stated reason (ie: NOT for the "if they are needed" reason which is given by the bill's sponsor).

Combining all the above reasons, the whole things smacks of an attempt to either intimidate or incarcerate political/ideological opposition (else the detention centers would be under civilian oversight, just like State and Local prisons are instead of directly under the control of the Executive Branch). If someone is against Guantanamo, they should be tooth and nail against this bill (odd...the same people/party lobbying for the closure of Gitmo are the ones fomenting this bill).
I myself can see the need for places like Gitmo (when you have seen first hand what I have, I am sure you would agree with me), even though I don't like it, but I cannot see for the life of me what the Dems think they need these holding centers for unless they are planning some kind of mass roundup.
