This means that SEO as we know it may have to be completely reworked (doubtful)...

however, on a less severe note, if this is true SEO will be changing, I suggest no one invest in SEO'ing a site, and if it happens, try and figure out the best way to SEO and cash in.

i honestly dunno how it can change though, anyone have any ideas?

well its pretty impossible to screen out all malicous websites....since honest SEO practices are used by dishonest websites...I honestly doubt they will do anything.

i don't see how drastically changing SEO has any real value, for true gangstas could just re-manipulate the proper data. it would probably just knock down a few wannabes, and put up a few fences to jump over.

one thing they can do is accept reports on sites to be filtered, like how their spam folder works.

They have to do something. They are majority market share holders and if people lose trust in google's ability to properly and safely help them find information then clients will turn to other search engines. They would be foolish to sit back and not do anything.

I agree this is going to be a constant battle which users will always re-manipulate the proper data. Possibly this could give another company the time to develop a new code for search engine and compete with Google (assuming the problem gets worse before better and people lose trust with Google)...thats a long shot and I doubt it will happen anytime soon if at all. Hmm it also creates a market gap. I could see a program that follows links listed on googles search engines to scan for viruses, phishing scans, worms etc etc. Linked up to a dozen or so honeypots to properly identify websites coming off the rankings that contain malicious software. I do like your idea of being able to flag websites but then that could be misused as well.

yes, that is the new america. if you make money in an intelligent, easy, quick way you are surely a criminal. sad right? this applies to all industries now not just seo/inet marketing.

to be honest i think that it is ridiculous that people would would be deemed "criminals" for doing blackhat seo tactics.

if this change is in effort to stop blackhat methods, they are wasting their time

i figure if there's some intelligent people reading the reports you could find at least the main sites to shut down.

but yeah i pretty much agree with your idea of a better engine, i will probably attempt to develop one myself... hell i'd even let google buy me out for half a bill. haha
i do think though that if you combined the knowledge of all the heads on this board, you could develop a mapsless network.
