BOOTMGR is missing *tech support plz halp*

i was fucking around with the partitions on my laptops HDD and i think i set more than one to active so now bootmgr is fucked up. i cant access HP system recovery (their excuse not to send me cds) and now everytime i restart it tells me "BOOTMGR is missing ctrl+alt+delete to restart". windows7/vista are the os installed

everywhere online it tells me i need a windows7 cd to fix this.. dont have one nor do i have any DVDs so i cant burn it either.

i have it on an external hard drive, but there are loads of files there that i need kept safe. is it possible to boot certain files off of the external drive while keeping the rest safe? any help is appreciated

i remember awhile back one of my HDs wouldnt boot to the OS, so i connected both to the PC at once, and just transfered all my files from the non bootable HD to the working one..

you should be able to just load up a cd and run the recovery console type fixboot

i'm partly ignoring everything you've said because it should be obvious that you need to copy the files somewhere before you wipe it. i'll explain to you your options.

- if the files aren't big, upload them somewhere.
- go to another pc and copy them over (if you don't have one where you live, go to a friend's)

Get some dvds or a small 4GB flash drive, make it bootable or install grubloader on the bitch. That is all.

i recently had the same problem, i just used a windows 7 disc with the boot folder in it and it worked fine

Dunno with win and external, but making a bootable stick for linux my other files on the flashdrive stayed intact. js. don't reccomend anything but check it out ?
