New Immigration Law in Arizona!!!

Ok for those of you living under a rock...

the State of Arizona has just passed a law that allows Police officers to
ask people for I.D.'s if you cannot prove you're american you will be deported on the spot.

Any input on the subject?

I will add this has been in place quite some time in California. Mostly in "El Puente": where cars and passengers are made to get in single file and wait until an officer walks to the car.

All persons are asked for ID the ones without ID are then escorted to a waiting INS bus to be checked out.

Once again those who cannot prove they are american are deported on the spot.

There was a lawsuit against the cit of West Covina which is still working itway through higher courts, on the base that
it allows for Racial Profiling.

they'd run your pockets at the police station and uncover your id, and if you weren't carrying it you'd probably have trouble reentering the country. then again i suppose you could always claim to have lost it in mexico. but i can't really picture the cops deporting a caucasian dude with a joe schmo american dialect in the first place. brush up on your spanglish for this to work. but i mean, even if you were turned over to the .mx authorities, and didn't identify yourself, you'd be stuck in a filthy mexican jail. if you identified yourself as an american citizen they'd immediately turn you back over to US authorities.

If a police officer pulls you over for speeding it is actually illegal for him to ask to search your car, or to ask where you're going, or anything that isn't directly relative to the exact reason he pulled you over to begin with. They don't teach anybody their legal rights in school though so most of us just let the cops do what they want.
