Who wants to try it first? lol

greetings, fellow internet!

lol that is epic. But now that this is online...walmart is going to catch on eventually.
it's hardly worth it
what are you going to get for a 1tb hdd? $75? and maybe $150 for an i5? plus wal-mart only stocks garbage machines
most boring signature of all time
If you could pull this off at bestbuy it would be worth it though.
$225 of free stuff for 30 minutes worth of work is hardly worth it? The HD's might be crappy but a CPU is a CPU is a CPU.
Target has a computer with an i5-2600k and a 560GTX but they don't mass produce everything in China like Walmart does so I'd have a harder time justifying it, lol.
it's not like wal-mart finances an acer plant in china, they buy the machines from the same distributors, they just get better prices because they can force the distrib's hand
i have a really hard time believing that a big box store would take back a thousand dollar machine without checking to make sure it works. and i wasn't saying it was hardly worth it because of the monetary return but because of the fact that you run the risk of getting arrested for jacking shitty components that you're going to have to turn around and flip to morons on CL who will just lowball you for your stolen goods anyway
definitely not a headache i'm interested in
spend $500 and build yourself a machine

I meant I don't consider them as evil of a corporation as walmart. I used to do something sort of similar to this with dead PS2's at costco when I was a kid and they never once plugged them in or turned it on. Also, you COULD replace the components with cheaper ones just to be safe but that adds a lot to the process.
I wouldn't be flipping the stuff on CL, I need a new 'puter. I'm not saying I'm going to do this I just wanted to share it with dg, although I am definitely entertaining the idea. I found an archived version of the original 4chan post and lots of people were giving suggestions and throwing out possible obstacles (i.e. warranty stickers).
hmm, yeah. idk man components are so cheap you can build a beast machine for so cheap now
my home media server has 32gb of ram now just because it's cheap

you could pay cash, or give the store a runaround.
cut the tape on the box for the computer (before you get to the front) and when you check out, point out it looks like the tape may be cut, but "the other employee said it was on discount, open box sale".
therefore you have a cover, simply just get home, call the store and ask for the same employee (if possible) or tell the manager there were missing parts in the computer. it wouldn't turn on, etc.
take it back, ask to see the same employee that rang you up, he confirms you mentioned something about tape, and done.
I've never done this, nor do I want anyone else to try. If you try this gl but I'm not responsible. This post was created fictitiously in order to be educational.

you guys are all idiots and i advise you not to try to defraud any of these big box stores since you seem to have zero street sense or "meth mentality"

dunno it seemed logical because most employees will just be too lazy to confirm this with a manager/other employee.
people are mad lazy in stores.

yeah bro but there's 100% no reason for you to point out the fact that you're purchasing an open-box item to the cashier, why would they give a fuck?

There are various niche situations where this (or even parting out discounted / Slickdeal prebuilt systems) sort of thinking is valid. Many of these machines include overclocking friendly OEM-only or binned CPUs ( for instance, the 65w AMD A6-3600 / A8-3800 ). This will be a larger factor with the Trinity platform though. The A8-3800's resale value is higher than MSRP on Amazon / eBay.
The downside is that this is extremely dangerous, as Walmart requires additional information every year. Names, numbers, locations, and even SKUs can be flagged. Beyond the obvious aspect of the scheme's legality, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Coupon-codes, cashback, and pricematching offer a legal route that actually allows you to scale your efforts in a linear fashion. This used to be common with discounted Gen1 i3 notebooks (being parted out for 100-200 above actual cost).
I just social engineer companies to send me free shit. It's my word versus theirs and since I'm the customer, I'm always right. Do a little doctored up receipt from [Electronic Store] and its eZ pZ. And best part is, you never leave your home until you go to the post to pick up your package.
i find that really hard to believe. i bought an xbox (w/cash) 2 years ago , played it for 2 hours, TOAST, took the fucker back and i remember having to provide a picture ID and a CC for verification before i could return it. this is in NY, could be different elsewhere, i guess.
Do not say that. Most people do not open their computer if it doesn't work. They return it or call customer service. I wouldn't bother with this if I were you. They track EVERYTHING with computers nowadays.
Now, a switcharoo is another story. But what you're talking about isn't a switcharoo.
It is what it is...Until it isn't.Good judgment comes from experience. Sometimes experience comes from bad judgment.
There is no electronics retailer, including Fry's/BestBuy/Staples/etc., that checks to see if returned items are functional because most often the legitimately returned items are defunct in the first place. I've managed OE sales before and this is the case 100% of the time. Returned items are HAL'd and packaged to be sent to a QA firm and then from there each manufacturer has their own methods of refurbishing or recycling the products.
This will always work unless you look like a shady newfag and/or large retailers decide to overhaul their polices and train their staff to do the QA -- which will never happen.
Seriously. You guys give Walmart employees too much credit.
HEG616 she asked to see your ID because you paid with a CC.

There's definitely lots of good info in that 4chan thread. You're such a pussy lol whatdafuq you know about street smarts? Have you ever seen 10 lbs of chronic? A brick of coke?
Please give me a play by play of how anyone would get caught doing this.. ? Young street smart niqqas ITT.
okay wow
first off, me having seen huge quantities of drugs has nothing to do with you nickel and diming motherfucking wal-mart because you can't afford $500 to go build your own computer you cocktard, secondly i doubt anyone here that knows me would question the fact that i've seen keys of every imaginable powder on this earth, still don't see how that validates anything
the people that pull off these types of scams are doing so so they can afford their next bag of d

wal-mart does NOT fuck around with prosecution, either. so have fun with that

Having been in possession of large amounts of drugs is usually a good indicator of street smarts imo but yeah I guess that was kind of a stretch as it pertains to this thread. I haven't even done this shit I'm just saying it'd be damn hard to get caught. I'm still trying to imagine a scenario where they'd be able to catch someone doing this.
Having been in possession of large amounts of drugs for many years without ever having been caught up**
I'm going to get back to studying for the last final of my college career now. Someone go try this.

I know people who have swapped xbox's out walmart
buy broken

swap.
refund.
did it at least 10 times at different stores and got other people to do it at the stores he already hit.
1. Walk into Best Buy with your girl and buy a dvd. Walk out the door and make a u-turn to walk back in the store (remember to get sticker on dvd)
2. Get an employee to unplug the most expensive surround reciever they have marked as open box
3. Tell the employee you can take it to the counter because you have to get some cables and shit
4. As you approach the counter set the reciever on the ground and hand the dvd for exchange.
5. Make a bunch of small talk and never let them have a moment of silence to think
6. Say thank you and when the next customer walks up grab your 1k dollar Denon reciever and put the dvd on top
7. Walk out the door and smile at the dude who checks reciepts and he wont ask to see yours because he remembers you coming in and at our store can see the whole checkout process and assumes you payed for it.
8. Realize you did all this by accident and enjoy the free surround sound.
9. Repeat?
2 legit 2 quit
