need help with website

okay gentlemen, i have a couple of questions and i was hoping that someone would be able to give me a little bit of help. any help would be greatly appreciated.

okay, so here's the deal. i bought a domain name and i want to set up a custom wordpress blog with a custom theme up on it. to make things easier, here is a list of what i have.

domain name [hostgator]
hosting [hostgator]
downloaded wordpress from wordpress.org
downloaded a custom wordpress theme from elegant themes

that is what i have. now, when i did the "quickinstall" on hostgator to a wordpress it thought, like an idiot, it would be simple but since im a dolt it isnt.

this is what i need to know. how do i get my elegant theme installed onto my blog? i have all the necessary components from domain to hosting i just don't know how to properly set it all up. if anyone could lecture a n00b i would greatly appreciate the help!

So did you complete the quick install? Can you get into the wordpress admin? If so, you just go to Appearance -> Themes -> Install Themes -> Upload and you can upload a zipped theme from there.

no i cannot / do not know how to get into the wordpress admin.

i went to wordpress.COM and there when i went to themes i didn't see "install" i can screen shot what i see if that makes it easier for you all,

Don't go to wordpress.com, go to the admin panel of your wordpress install (URL.com/wp-admin)

A lot of times when you get a file for themes make sure it's not nested. Like Theme.zip/theme/theme/index.php etc. Make sure it's just theme.zip/theme/index.php. I always do that when I download from Scriptmafia because I don't pay attention.
