ccna was offered for free in the highschool i went to, it was a 3 year course and then you take the test if you want and get certified, but most people failed it

my A+ was 80 hours and my net+ was like 5 days. I had almost a year experience in network support so it was shorter.

    Ah gotcha.

Yeah you can do CCNA crash courses that are a week or two, they're not very hard to get from what I hear.

Either way I don't think employers really care about certs except for things like the CCIE and CISSP.

    i disagree w/ versh

i got more monies @ joerb for A+, and im getting MCDST cert'd (hopefully if i pass lolz) in august and will get a raise for that i'm sure as well.
i do agree w/ vershun's reasoning (i'm sure) that they're kinda pointless pieces of paper to say "i'm smart." there's certainly other better ways to show an employer that you're legit and you know your stuff.

then again... versh did go to college for that same kind of "piece of paper" :P

anyway i think it's worth it. get some online books n shit and read up then just take 'em. Find some practice tests online and see what areas you pwn @ and what areas you're teh suck @ and base studying around that.

But aren't you already in a job? If your employer values certs than you should definitely go for it, often you'll get benefits from getting certs related to your particular field. As far as getting your foot in the door though I think there's a lot better ways of doing it.

Either way there's no way they'll hurt you. ::shrug::

yeah. i just started a new job 2 months ago; i had my A+ though and it def helped from what i've found. the other two engineers at work were more or less required to get it after they got hired so i'm sure it gave me a big ups getting hired over the other losers that they interviewed near me B)

Haha it's fine I was just giving opinion, if you have experience with certs helping with your work then speaking up is good .

This forum lacks a lot of constructive debating anyway.

Actually now that I think about it I think Best Buy requires you to have your A+ before they hire you.

lol 4srs?? those guys (from what i've experienced) are idiots. maybe that's saying something to what it means to have your A+ in the first place. =/
I found the Net+ easier, myself. That's where i came from though. I'm hella into hardwares now and could probably pass easy peazy

try to get all of those if you can or desire

or just get a+, net+, mcp (msce is like 7 tests after mcp) and ccna and i'm sure you can get a job easier than if you don't have any certs

a good way about learning is from prior experience with computers/software/hardware/networking

just keep at it and learn as you go, get some lab books that guide you through some things and you can learn as you go. check out amazon, ecampus.com or google for some text books, they usally come with practice tests and lab cds to work with. it's not as hard as you think if you do it. schools usually make you get books and they work off of those, so a lot of the times you will probably be familiar with a lot of things in the books
