In oregon trail I would name them all after cute girls and not buy any clothes for the whole trip.

In rpgs I liked the "you piece of shit" idea. But I usually just named everyone after people I knew but like zain said, the first time through, I keep defaults...

I keep a growing record of all the names of sorcerers, monsters, and creatures that I have met or slain in the game (more of a life than a game) of DnD. When I make a new character I choose a DnD beast that fought both fiercely and bravely, making me role the dice at least 4 times before I was finally victorious. I take the first syllable from their name out of respect and attach "ashimble" to the end of it.

If it allows a last name, I use the last name of the current head wizard of the chaotic-neutral plane (always changing).
