Default [COMING SOON] Nerd Wealth 2.0: Nerd Wealthier

I've been kicking this idea around for at least a year so many of you already know about it, but by the end of this month I will be launching an all new version of NerdWealth.com.

I am switching to vbDrupal, which I'm really excited about. Not only will we be able to have fun with all kinds of drupal modules on top of the blog (wiki, perhaps ) but it is also tightly integrated with vbulletin. People will be able to use the same account to comment on the blog, interact with other aspects of the site, and use the forum.

Yes, the forum. No, it's not going to be more of whywork. The forum is going to require paid memberships, so every person in there will be serious about making money online. I will be inviting a few get money allstars to help get the forum moving, but it will quickly expand to people from far wider circles on the internet than the same old dg crowd. I will be personally contributing ideas, tips, and code that I would never drop on a public forum.

Here is the planned structure for the forums:

I am posting this now to find out what you guys think and see if you have any other suggestions for the site. I know I've been really infrequent on my NerdWealth updates to date, but with the new launch I will be updating much more regularly and possibly bringing on an additional blogger or two.

I plan on offering the first 50 memberships at $19.95/mo then raising prices after that. I'm excited to hear what you guys think.

So an elite, private version of wickedfire?

I think it's an awesome idea - I just wish I had been involved with this sort of thing a long time ago. Takes bank to make bank - I understand that. Which is a good reason to charge, because as you said - it will be full of people that take it seriously.

Looks good bud, I like it.

yeah that was my thought. the beautiful thing about it is anyone not willing to pay $20/mo to be involved in higher level discussions on online moneymaking isn't someone we would want on the board anyway.

I think you'll need to establish a solid forum with content before anyone is going to pay for it. I believe that you would probably have some good stuff available there, but as far as anyone else contributing anything helpful would be a toss up.

I think I have enough talented friends willing to contribute to get it kick started. The thing to keep in mind on something like that is ROI. If you spend a month or two on the forums and don't walk away with enough knowledge to make your $40 back, well... you don't belong there anyway.

    Fawzy, dg charges for funbux.

It's all in presentation - give people the option to obtain things that interest them, and they'll pay.

Were you ever a paid member? There was a seriously different vibe there because everyone there was serious about it, I really enjoyed it a lot. I think $100/mo is kind of cost-prohibitive for people that are earlier in the game and those are the types that I like to develop. I think it is enough, though, to make sure that everyone that bothers posting there is motivated enough to take what they learn and run with it.

rmkilla, I think if you created a place that could both provide new content for experienced people, but also an environment that was set up to help new comers, like actually "take under the wing" type thing, you could definitely get some members.

I see a lot of people come around DG and other places, (efex/mhu/etc) that are willing to put in effort but know absolutely nothing and nobody is really willing to help them out and give them enough information to get started, either they get tips thrown at them or insults.

I think it would be somewhat hard to appease both angles, but doable.

maybe some type of system where you got credits for contrib and everytime you lurked / viewed post it took away those credits so in order to continue viewing / lurking you'd need to post more

or even vote on the post to increase credits

I think it's definitely doable. I would argue that efex/mhu et al really haven't been willing to put in the effort. I've really spent a lot of time giving some people advice and they don't take it. I think the paid forum concept will actually help those types of people because if you're taking the initiative and paying for the advice it will seem more valuable and you're more likely to implement it.

I really think it has the potential to be a tightknit community of people who benefit each other and perpetually raise the bar of community knowledge. I think that because there will be high level discussion, the people that have already made it will be much more likely to share because they will receive value from other sharp people. The fact that the entry fee will keep the community small will not make them feel like they are wasting knowledge by posting it.

I don't really want to get in a situation where I'm rewarding posting for posting's sake. I think that people that contribute content and value will be making an investment in their reputations. I can speak from personal experience in saying that demonstrating my knowledge and experience publicly has gotten me invited to participate in numerous profitable enterprises that I would not have been privy to if I'd just kept to myself.

I think its got great potential for the want to succeed DG's. Not much in it for those already up in the game, but great opportunity just make sure shit is leaked and posted all over the internets

I agree, I actually didn't even want to include MHU in that but I couldn't think of any names at the top of my head.

I would argue that those already in the game will still be able to find lots of value. People come here then ask me "uhm do any of these people seriously make money online" because it's 99% noise 1% signal here. I think the fact that it is purpose-built will allow us to attract and retain plenty of creative people that we haven't known for a decade already and allow us to all step our game up.

"Americans like to believe in American exceptionalism, that the United States is a force for good around the world, not just another country pursuing its interests via geopolitical horse-trading. This is part of why there is such a visceral public backlash against WikiLeaks -- because it lays bare U.S. diplomacy in all its blunt, unromantic reality."

im jus here to defend efex, efex has grown so much in the past year.. i've personally worked with him and have helped him, always willing to learn and is a great listener and worker. despite his age of 15 years old..

mhu on the other hand, i never tried to work with and wouldn't ever think about it...i see rmk spit so much knowledge his way... he's either mentally retarded or fuck i don't know what his excuse is

I think this is a great idea rmk, I would be willing to join a community like this. I was with the S.Q.U.I.R.T community for awhile, they were charging $100 a month as well. Worth every penny imo, aslong as the community stays bumpin.

Well all the mechanics are in place but the forum isn't skinned all pretty and my invitees don't have as many warm-up posts in there as I was planning to launch with... but it is launchable.

Do you guys think I should open up signups now or wait until everything is beautiful and we have a little fodder in all the subforums?
