    Default Vista x64 Ultimate

Have to do a clean install from XP x64. What a crock. I'm going to put it in a partition and see what I can do from there.

Anybody do this and have success migrating over programs? Anybody ever try migrating XP backup (.btf) files over to Vista?

Yeah that's been my mantra but I'm sick of dealing with the XP x64 issues.

    I'll see...if I don't like it I'll just reformat the partition.

But XP x64 has a lot of issues...like HTTP DLs timing out, software incompatibility...

Many of the appz I want to install aren't compatible. The HTTP DL thing is a well-known problem.

Not that anybody gives a shit...

But I've got Vista working and I'm pretty happy with it so far...no compatibility/security issues. It seems to be quite efficient once I get used to the directory structure. My computer is definitely faster than with XP x64.

i ran xp 64 for about 2 years and had some problems with it and heard that vista 64 actually is more compatible with drivers / app support. i never upgraded though, i don't really want to run windows unless i have to

You can still get rid of it if you need to. All my copies of Windows have updated no problem.

Also...the more I run Vista the more I like it. Only problem so far was a crash (blue screen) but the little info window that came up actually told me what driver caused the crash...big step over how this was handled before. I'll see if I can do something about that.

You solely run Linux? Do you use wine at all to run Office, etc?

Mac, boot camp Windows if I need to. Macs scored the best for Vista when running under bootcamp, which is ironic...

Most coding I do is serverside or cross platform, so Mac was a better choice for me. Better operating system plus the new mac pros are 8 core

I had Macs back in the 80s but went PC with Windows 3.1...haven't gone back since.
