Cannabis is more than likely going to be taxed like alcohol in California, a cash crop- same as tobacco. No criminal penalties for cultivation, possession, distribution, etc.

I need this man, herb is the only thing that helps my condition and you can barely get it here in Idaho. It's ridiculous.

There are going to be tons of regulations IF this even happens, and really high start up costs. I also don't know where you're buying seeds, I've never seen high quality seeds for $8.99.

need grow lights preferrably blue spectrum to veg from a metal halide then when switching to flower a red spectrum from a high pressure sodium*

also, dirt is great, as long as you can keep the N-P-H balances in a kosher state.

eg, dont nute-lock your plants, its not good for them but having to flush them can produce badness all the way around. ive done it before but its not recommend unless absolutely necessary.

i mean fuck dude lets not even mention the fans/filters and the box to house flowering plants as you dont want light to get to them.

theres alot more that goes into cannibus cultivation than just 'pots, dirt, and seeds'.

*note: thats about 600-1000$ worth of lights. you need the bulbs/ballasts/shields etc. ebay you can get it for about 400 for the two but i wouldnt recommend ebay lights. mine was DoA

Not to mention, even when it gets passed it is going to be like a tobacco license or liquor license, just because you have a seed and some dirt you are not going to be able to grow freely and go out on the corner and sell it.

Epic thanks to everyone who replied, a lot of very crucial questions were presented. I will try my best to address each one:

1)There's more to growing pot than seeds and dirt.

Obviously, I've never had the opportunity to attempt a growing operation. This would be a learning experience for me absolutely, what I was trying to present is that I have the heart to see this through.

2)Holes being shot through my business plan.

I hear ya, I consider myself more left brained than anything. I'm decent at creating stuff and I think that would transfer well to farming.

3)Kush in Idaho, step up my game.

Have you ever been to Coeur d'Alene? I get frisked leaving my house to walk to the gas station for an energy drink. The cops here all think they're super cop and probably have a completely fabricated dossier on me even though I've never been charged with anything.

I don't see why I wouldn't qualify for a legit license, I've never been convicted of anything. I have decent credit, graduated high school, some college. Years of "real" job experience, so on and so on.

I invested in a legal ca growing operation, and will be seeing a return in the middle of march. the plants are looking nice.

you can grow it the legal way now, but its about a good 6-7k to get it off the ground. you won't see any money back until 3 months later. then its every 2 months after that. thats with about 40 plants (10 plants per med script, max of 4 med scripts per house that grows). the selling it part will be illegal unless you get the wholesaler license down, which will add to your costs.

there's always contingencies. the police always have the "fed" laws as a chip on their shoulder to fuck you with no matter how legal you are. or you get some fucked up land lord that'll try to extort you if they figure out you're growing. there's always threat of jacking/theft if you're being an idiot and inviting people over.

just make money on the internet, and start growing a plant or two in your own time to get the process down. most people I know have disappointing results their first time. if you need startup funds bad enough, check out the other "make money" forum.

you really haven't thought this through.
if you want to grow legally.. you need a medical card. on top of that a growers license enabling you to sell to the clubs. both these run AT LEAST 3 bills. on top of that seeds and soil WILL NOT GIVE YOU GOOD HERB, which is required for the clubs. Most of the good stuff is grown hydroponically, ebb and flow gardens, which can run you up to 3000 without nutrients and lighting.

Read an article in the NYT a few days ago thats Obama is prolly gonna tell the DEA to get of the little guys in Cali. Basically you will see a reduction in the number of crackdowns on small scale operations which dont use the money for other illegal stuff.

Cops anywhere in Idaho are bastards. That's why I left and I try my hardest to return as little as possible. The whole justice system is fucked, especially down in southeast Idaho. Cops pull people over for whatever they want, and if you're not Mormon the courts fuck you. Police corruption has made the front page of the paper a few times in the last couple years and Idaho Falls' DA is still in prison for corruption and I hope his ass stays there for years to come.

Mendocino is a HOTBED of action as far as growing goes. There have been a few busts recently, but it's usually only fuckers who get really greedy and start operations that can clearly be seen from a helicopter. Not to mention if you buy 2 tons of soil, the police are liable to follow you back to your plantation.
Federal law sometimes gets in the way of really large operations in my country, but if you like plants... this place kind of rocks for this kind of thing.

As for the state trying to not to enforce fed rules... I guess it makes you safe from the state folks. I mean I'm not telling anyone not to grow chronic; hell, I would probably do it myself if I moved back to CA. I'm just saying weed is still illegal. Just because CA Legislature says otherwise doesn't mean you're safe. As noted above, the US Supreme Court already said that weed can be governed under the Commerce Clause (Federal law), and that includes any purely intrastate activities such as growing for sale only within the state. The feds have pretty much said all weed is illegal. So, sorry, the Court is gonna allow really broad interpretation here. Not saying that the feds under Obama won't have a more rational policy either; I'm just saying to be careful growing something that the feds say is illegal.
